Genève McNally from Dream Group Planners

Behind the Scenes: Genève McNally

We arrived at the UBC Botanical Gardens on a bright, sunlit morning, the most perfect wedding location that could have been chosen for Melissa and Tim’s special day. At 9am, we met up with the brilliant Genève McNally; owner, and principal planner from Dream Group Planners only to find her on her phone already talking to the bride! From this very moment, we understood just how much of an amazing, hard working, and dedicated wedding planner she is!

It truly is amazing how much unseen work goes into the wedding by the Wedding Planner, until the day of the wedding. It was such a wonderful experience to be able to capture as many moments as we possibly could have of this amazing, organized process. There was not a single moment during this day in which she took even a five minute break. During the cocktail party, when the guests were taking family wedding photos, she was walking around the area making sure every guest was at their happiest.

Of course, as there are amazing moments during these photoshoots, and then there will be ones such as the moment we realized our lens cap had gone missing. A few days following this wedding, we received an email from Genève saying she had found a lens cap. She really does not let a single thing slip by!

We are so honoured to have been able to work with Genève. We are very grateful for this experience and we hope she did not mind us following her throughout the day! Congratulations to Melissa and Tim, huge thank you to Genève for this lovely experience. And thank goodness for the lovely catering crew for also preparing snacks for vendors to munch on! What an unforgettable experience this amazing day was!

Mia and Jay

As a Vancouver Wedding Videography and Photography business, it is best to prepare in advance, but it is never guaranteed that the wedding day will always turn out the way we plan. Everyone is different, and every one of those people interact differently, so filming a wedding is always very intuitive and has to happen gradually as the day unfolds. However, such friendly, outgoing souls such as Mia and Jay make my job feel so easy. What a beautiful wedding this amazing couple had.

Shooting short highlights can be slightly nerve wracking because we try and do everything we can to capture the day as best as possible. Capturing every single family member and friend in the video, and then through editing, making sure every important detail remains in the video!  As usual, we tried to do everything we could to capture their day as perfectly as possible.

It is quite mind-blowing how much different wedding videos can be to wedding photos. Photographing involves a much different procedure in preparation for the day. Planning out wedding photo poses, looking up the right locations to preparing different lenses. The worst part about videographing a wedding day, other than the excitement of preparing for the edit, is the moment it ends. But we always look forward to the next one! Make our days and don't forget to book your complimentary engagement session!

Daniel and Monica

December 26th, 2017

On such a crisp, holiday morning, we got on our way to photograph and film Daniel and Monica’s gorgeous wedding. This was one of the most relaxed, low-key weddings we have ever witnessed, and yet it was so fulfilling and passionate. Their wedding ceremony was held at Our Lady of Mercy church in New Westminster, BC. Absolutely beautiful church, and even more beautiful of a ceremony filled with tears of joy and passion.

Mehdi photographed engagement photos for Daniel and Monica. We always like to say how amazing it is to have this engagement portrait session before the wedding, because it gives us a chance to not just get to know this engaged couple on a more personal level, but it also allows us to learn what the couple is comfortable with. Some engaged couples are more reserved, and prefer simple intimate, engagement photos. Simplicity in wedding photography is stunning yet there are couples who are ok with being lifted up onto a tree, such as Monica! We would not have known unless we had this lovely engagement shoot.
While deciding on different engagement photo poses, we come up with brilliant ideas for wedding photo poses! Not just on the wedding photographer’s end, but the couple often gives their input aswell! It is amazing how collaborative wedding photography can be, and how much more fun it becomes!

There is something about the way photographs turn out in the presence of snow. The lighting is different, the background, the air smells fresh and new, and I swear, the world becomes increasingly silent. It makes for the perfect wedding atmosphere. Although the weather was going to make our fingers and toes freeze off, there was a large wave of excitement that took over our team.

Among all of Vancouver's beautiful locations at which we may take photos, this wonderful couple picked Deer Lake Park for the bridal party portrait session. We were absolutely fascinated by this group’s ability to not just comfortably smile for photos during this portrait session, but simply hold the wedding photo poses without shivering! It is interesting how different photographing and filming is in the snow, we got some beautiful shots and footage with the snow in the background. What a beautiful, and friendly group of people we had the privilege of working with!

As a Vancouver Wedding Photography and Videography company, it is always an insanely important aspect for us for a venue to have an area for us to lay down our photography and videography “stash”. Riverway Golf course was extremely helpful, very vendor friendly. Not to mention, what a stunning location for a wedding reception! Our entire team was thrilled to be able to comfortably work during the wedding ceremony! Huge thank you to this amazing venue for being so spacious, and Wedding Photographer/Videographer friendly! What a perfect day filled with passion, and some truly amazing moments.   From the moment we sent them our photography and videography packages, to the moment this beautiful wedding came to closure, this whole experience has truly been unforgettable.  Congratulations to beautiful Daniel and Monica, and a huge thank you for allowing us to have such a positive experience. Although the lovely wedding day is now a memory, we wish Daniel and Monica only the best, and most joyous days as a now married couple!

Genevieve and JJ

Fall 2017

It is always a nice change to switch gears from weddings to portrait sessions. What a breath of fresh air it was to photograph Gen and JJ. One quality that the best wedding videographers or best wedding photographers have is the ability to avoid interfering with a special moment (such as a wedding kiss, wedding dance, speeches or wedding vows during the ceremony) and still create beautiful images or videos. Sometimes, this gets challenging, as many people are not used to being in front of a camera. Wedding photo poses can be challenging to get into, especially if an engaged couple has not been in front of a camera before. Genevieve and JJ were outgoing, unreserved, adventurous, and they are both actors! These amazing attributes made the job feel effortless!   One of the beauties of photographing an engaged couple before their wedding, is getting to know them before the special day! Wedding photography and videography is not one size fits all, is so tailored to the specific engaged couple! Getting to know the way they interact, the wedding poses and romantic poses they are comfortable with doing, is extremely helpful come wedding day, when we know how to direct them on which poses and knowing what they are comfortable with. Oftentimes, they even give us some input on the best photo angles they have, or their "good side" for photographs! These wedding shoots feel loads more effortless when we know a couple already!

One of the biggest challenges in planning a photoshoot is always picking a location among all of the beautiful parks, beaches, mountains, lakes and rivers in Vancouver. Being a local Vancouver Photographer is both a blessing and a curse. Extremely lucky though. Amid all of these picturesque places, I figured Coquitlam River would be the perfect place to capture some precious moments! And indeed, it was! We were just about SWIMMING in the Coquitlam River, let alone walking overtop of it! I must say that one of the most challenging parts was being terrified that either one of my camera lenses, or even worse, one of us three would fall into the river! Although the experience was slightly fearful, I must say it was good practice for when a bride and groom would like photos near/in water! Who knew that the best photographers must also have good balance! I must say, even though the experience may have been slightly terrifying, being in nature is 10 times better than being in a photography studio!   It’s interesting how much different river wedding photography is different to beach wedding photography. The focus is completely different. With beach wedding photography, the focus may be on the background. The still, or wavy, water in the background. Whereas with river wedding photography, we must put in some effort in order to keep the water in the frame! And yet, compared to beach water, instead of being still, it is unrestrained, wild and stormy. So much life in the River. The end of a two hour portrait session has only one good aspect to it (other than looking forward to editing the images and sending the 30 of them off to the couple!) is knowing that there will be another one soon! If you're up to making our day, book your complimentary engagement portrait session soon!   We would love to do another portrait session soon! We love photographing everything, creative wedding photography, studio wedding photography, indian wedding photography, family wedding photography, asian wedding photography, bridal portraits, event photography or any kind of traditional wedding photography. And also videography of all sorts of weddings, and events.   Huge thank you to Gen and JJ for being so easy to work with and for such an amazingly fun photoshoot!

Aeronn & Alison Wedding Day

While driving to the “getting ready” location on a wedding day, there are always a million different emotions running through our heads. Every wedding is unique and dazzling in it’s own way. One of the most amazing parts of owning a Wedding Videography and Wedding Photography company is feeling those creative juices flowing while preparing the lenses, and carrying the camera equipment. It is a privilege to be able to create art along with being able to feel the happiness and excitement with the newly married couple.

During the wedding dinner is usually the time for the photographer and the videographer to have a moment to switch SD cards, discuss what other photos need to be taken and recharge their camera batteries (as well as their own!). We had sat down to do some discussing of what is to happen in the next few moments, and grab a bite of food to eat. I must give 10/10 points the Brix and Mortar for it’s delicious vegan salad that was made for us! Never before did we feel this spoiled as photographers and videographers at any wedding! This wedding food was absolutely to die for!   Throughout our chatting about the next photographs we needed to get, we noticed that our camera lens was not in the place where Mehdi had left it. After a solid four minutes of slight terror on all three of our parts-Photographer, videographer and photographer’s assistant-we realized that the camera lens had just been misplaced into a different camera lens section of Mehdi’s backpack. This was a massive “phew!” moment for the three of us.  During wedding days, the time goes by so quickly and movements from getting ready locations to wedding ceremony locations to reception locations happen so quickly, it is not impossible to miss a very slight detail, even one such as placing a camera lens into the wrong section of the backpack! Of course, this is not a big deal, as all three of us are usually extremely careful, it was just a quite shocking four minutes that could have been avoided!   Usually, on wedding days, or should I say, really, any “job” that is ever done.. well let’s just say, it would be quite odd if absolutely nothing went wrong on the day. It will never be 100% perfect. When these little mistakes happen, I always like to show some gratitude towards the situation, as I am so thankful that the “mistakes” or “accidents” that happen are usually just as tiny as something such as a camera lens or a camera lens cap being misplaced. When we think about it, many other things may go wrong!   We were very lucky to have had a comfortable place to store our camera "stash" (all of our bags, laptops, equipment, tripods, etc!) during the wedding’s dinner time. Kimberly had found us a table to place in the area where the ceremony took place, and we were so grateful to have been able to make use of this area at this time.   An enormous amount of effort, energy, and excitement goes into preparing to photograph a wedding. it is such an honour to be the one to capture this remarkable day through our lenses. This is one of the highlights of being a wedding photographer and videographer in this beautiful Vancouver, BC. The beauty of capturing the perfect moments exactly how they deserve to remember them. We would like to thank every vendor that was involved in this wedding, everyone did such a great job. This venue was absolutely beautiful, and the wedding food was fabulous. Congratulations to beautiful Alison and Aeronn and we hope that the two of you have a marriage filled with nothing but the absolute best, and most happiest of days!

Valerie & Victor Wedding Day

August 12th 2017

We arrived at Victor’s house, where he and his groomsmen were getting ready. Victor’s family owned a fig tree, and at the time, was filled with fruit! Our assistant, as well as our videographer Riun are vegan. Alica could not have been more overjoyed to see this tree, and Victor’s father was kind enough to gift us with a bag of figs from their tree.

This was at 8:30am, and already, our photography and videography team was ecstatic due to an overload of figs. We are such a lucky Wedding Photography and Videography company. After getting some amazing groom’s getting ready footage, groomsmen pictures and getting ready wedding pose photos, we got on our way to the Chapel at Minrou Park in Richmond, where their beautiful ceremony was held.

Feeling those creative juices flowing while preparing the lenses, getting into the car on the way to the wedding location, and then carrying the camera equipment is one of the most exciting, nerve wracking, and energizing feelings to exist for us. It is a privilege to be able to create art along with being able to feel the happiness and excitement with the newly married couple.

With bunnies running around and flowers blooming outside in the sunlight of this tiny, beautiful and intimate wedding chapel, we agreed that we couldn’t have picked a more perfect wedding photo location if we had tried.

Victor, the groom at this wedding, is a very sweet, kind and more of an introverted, private soul in front of the camera than most, however, when he is with his bride, Valerie, his eyes light up and he looks at her like she was a starry sky, making it very easy to capture some beautiful moments. Their unconditional love must have been taken directly out of a picture perfect romantic film. It is most definitely is the kind we read about in novels. These moments make wedding photography, videography, and simply capturing any special moments feel absolutely effortless.

The beautiful bride, Valerie, was sweet, funny, and very easy to work with. Really, the perfect bride. Their wedding vows during their ceremony were so incredibly beautiful. One of the most intimate, perfect weddings we had seen in a while.

The wedding reception was held in the amazing Gingeri in the Lansdowne Centre. As a photography and videography team, we are usually prepared with as minimal “stuff” as we can (such as camera equipment, food, camera lenses). As photographers and videographers do absolutely everything we can to have as little as possible to carry. However, it is not always that simple. Generally, photographers, especially in the form of a larger group, do need lots of equipment. As minimalistic as we try to be, there is only so much we can do to try to diminish the size of a tripod. However, when the wedding venue we arrive at has a safe place for us to put our “stash” and it is also comfortable enough for us, we are most happy. Usually, we strategically plan ahead as there is not much we can do We must say how mindblown we were at how vendor friendly this area was. It was perfectly wedding vendor friendly. We had significant amounts of room to store our camera equipment, charge our batteries, set up a laptop so we could offload some footage, and to comfortably be able to switch between lenses without worrying about being in anyone’s way.   Gingeri Chinese Cuisine is, as the name states, a very traditional Chinese restaurant. The wedding guests seemed very satisfied with their food! Gingeri carries many delicious, however non-vegan, and non-vegetarian dishes. Although everyone seemed to be enjoying the food, two members of our photography and videography team was vegan, and one vegetarian. Of course, this is okay, because do not expect to ever eat at the weddings, we are there to photograph and capture special moments, and we plan ahead and usually bring snacks! However for how much meat was on the menu, this amazing restaurant went completely out of their way for the three of us, and were kind enough to make us a delicious vegan dish and rice. I would like to point out how extremely surprised and excited this made our photography and videography team.   The wedding dance was, as usual, very energetic, however for such a calm, collected, and reserved group of wedding guests, they sure had a lot of energy! Every guest at this lovely wedding seemed to have the absolute time of their life! We love capturing wedding moments such as these, when they go from intimate and romantic, to energetic and passionate! Beautiful wedding. Beautiful couple. We thank this amazing restaurant for feeding us when they really did not have to, and a huge congratulations to this beautiful married couple. We wish you the most amazing of days as a now married couple!
