It is amazing how much earlier golden hour happens in the wintertime. The golden sun lit up the air at two in the afternoon in the field as it was setting. Golden hour is the greatest gift you can give to a Vancouver Wedding Photographer or Videographer, especially among the picturesque locations this beautiful city has to offer. If only every wedding took place during this perfect photo light! Mehdi decided that it would be ideal to photograph Elena and Matt at Campbell Valley Park.
Generally for any portrait session or video shoot, at first, it takes a few minutes for Mehdi to get warmed up photographing, and for the couple to get fully comfortable posing for pictures. We’ve grown up in front of cameras and definitely know how it feels to be posing for pictures. Let me tell you, it ain’t easy! Understandably, we had to get into the swing of things in the first few minutes. We always prepare for this, as this is the reason for photoshoots generally being a little longer than needed. It takes a good chunk of time for everyone to find their comfort in not just the couple posing but also for the photographer and videographer to start photographing! Elena and Matt are such a sweet and friendly couple who it did not take them very long at all to master the wedding photo poses. Modeling careers for the both of them, perhaps? :)
It seems like watching the person being photographed freeze to death is a common theme among winter photography and videography or fall photography and videography. We definitely remember the insane coldness from Monica and Daniel’s wedding! Our fingers were frozen from not being in gloves while holding the camera, we can’t imagine how ridiculously cold the bride, groom, bridesmaids and groomsmen were in their thin wedding dresses and bridesmaids dresses. In the midst of preparing his lenses, camera, and all the rest of his camera equipment, our videographer Alex even forgot a coat for himself! All the crazy things that can happen during a wedding day, am I right?
Of course, this day was not nearly as cold as at Monica and Daniel’s wedding day, as there was no snow. But that beautiful light that the sun was projecting on us at this lovely golden how sure was deceiving! The ideal engagement and wedding photo light sure comes with a cost! I must say I am shocked by Elena and Matt’s ability to not freeze, especially in their thin sweaters.
We set up the backdrop in the field to get some “studio-like” pictures, but taken outside. Matt and Elena were kind enough to brings some props for photos such as a picnic blanket, a stool, a change of outfit, and champagne! Best couple ever, or what?! My personal favourite pictures out of all of these are the ones where the engagement ring is showing. In those beautiful moments, we see pure bliss and love in both of their faces. I must say, we got so excited when we saw the champagne, (I mean, who wouldn’t?) and Mehdi got some beautiful pictures of them with it! It was such a perfect way to bring this portrait session to an end.
This day seemed to pass by so quickly, we had just started getting creative with wedding photo poses and before we knew it, the photoshoot was over! Thank you to Elena and Matt for giving us the opportunity to photograph the two of you! We are excited beyond words to capture some beautiful moments of their unconditional love for each other at their upcoming celebration of their marriage. Good luck with planning your wedding. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your engagement!
